[...] DSISD Update Following is information regarding two Dripping Springs ISD propositions that will appear on the general election ballot on Nov. 8, 2011. One is a refunding of debt obligations from the General Fund with debt obligations from the Debt Service Fund. The debt obligations that would be refunded initially were issued in 2002 for mold mitigation at Dripping Springs Elementary School. Because of the urgency of the project, money was borrowed using the General Fund as security instead of funding it through a future bond program. This action would not affect property tax rates, but would reduce expenses from the General Fund by about $400,000 per year and save the District about $30,000 per year by reissuing the debt at a lower interest rate. The second is a Maintenance Tax Ratification that would create additional funding for DSISD schools. The proposed increase of 13 cents per $100 certified value would raise approximately $2.5 million annually for operating expenses. A home valued at $100,000 (after subtracting the $15,000 homestead exemption) would see a tax increase of $10.83 per month or $130 per year; taxes on the average home valued at $266,700 would increase $28.89 per month or $346.71 per year. To find out more about the Board of Trustees’ considerations and factors involved in these decisions to move forward, click here. [...]
