Weekly Newsletter – April 1, 2012
A Message from the President
Your DSE PTA needs you, and that’s no April Foolin’! As we begin a new month and are in full swing into spring, we have many opportunities to be involved at DSE and advance the work of the PTA. This week, the PTA board is scheduled to meet Wednesday morning. Please let any of the board members know before then if there’s something we should address. The next membership meeting is Wednesday, April 11.
The Area 6 Annual Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, at 11:30 a.m. at Simon Middle School (3839 E. FM 150, Kyle, TX). Not only is this a good opportunity to find out what is happening beyond our local district, but there will be training opportunities as well.
The Texas Education Agency, Texas PTA, and Texas Action for Healthy Kids are also presenting a webinar on Wednesday morning, April 4, entitled ‘Coordinated School Health: The Whole Child.”
Finally, there is a Texas PTA night with the Texas Stars on Saturday, April 14, with discounted ticket and parking offers. If you’re interested in any of these, let me know and I can provide further details.
Kindergarten Musical April 10
Please note that there will only be ONE Kindergarten Musical on Tuesday, April 10. It will be the same night as the K-2 Art Show. The music program will begin at 6:30 p.m., and students should be in the music room by 6:20 p.m.
“The theme is Nursery Rhymes, but this show is different from anything we’ve done with nursery rhymes in the past. It’s a party theme, and is an opportunity to dress your child up a little if you and the child would like. Whatever they wear, they’ll be wonderful, because they’re yours!” said Ms. McDonald.

WATER TO THRIVE SERVICE PROJECT: The project is going strong. We have 9 weeks to reach our goal of $5,000 and we are about half-way there! I am so proud of the students and our teachers and community for their creative efforts. If you have friends in businesses who might be willing to donate, please encourage them as well. I post weekly updates on my website. In April W2T plans to kick-off an online donation site. I will let you know when I have information about that! http://www.dsisd.txed.net/index.aspx?NID=2409
5TH TO 6TH GRADE TRANSITION: The first week of April is full of excitement with parent night and a student field trip to the Middle School. I have a link on my webpage for this as well with more information. April 3-Parent Night, April 5-Student tour, April 12 Course Sheets due to classroom teachers. District News and Events: From Jennifer Timm with the HS PTSA: Senior Portfolio Program – Parents Needed: Dripping Springs High School was the first in Texas to implement a portfolio program for the purpose of measuring student success and preparation for real world endeavors. Dripping Springs High School’s Pride in Portfolio Program has built a new way to make its students ready for the post-high school world. In order to participate in the graduation ceremony, senior students are required to prepare and present a multimedia presentation to a panel of a professional in their intended career area, a teacher, and a parent. The students will be presenting on the following dates: April 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, 17 & 18. 5 students per period will be presenting in different rooms.
DSHS PTSA is coordinating the parents on the panels. No experience needed – training will be provided prior to every morning and afternoon session. One student per room is scheduled per school period. For training and continuity purposes, we prefer to schedule parent volunteers to sit on panels from 8:30 – 12:45 (morning session including 20 minutes training up front), and 1:15 – 4:15 (afternoon session including 20 minutes for training.) If you are not able to volunteer for the full morning/afternoon session, please let us know which period you are available on April 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, 17 & 18, we will do our best to slot you in. Email us at email@example.com and let us know the following:
• Your name
• Contact Information
• Dates available
• Morning/Afternoon session – OR periods available
