There are many ways to get involved at Dripping Springs Elementary. Here we have broken down the opportunities into 3 groups: PTA Programs and Opportunities; Campus (working directly with a DSE staff member); and Classroom (with a focus in a particular classroom with a specific classroom teacher).
PTA Programs and Opportunities
Many of these programs require the efforts of a team of people led by a coordinator. Where we have a coordinator position filled for this school year, we have listed the name. Assembly Programs
This team works with administration and teachers to coordinate school day assemblies for the student body. In the past, 2 assemblies per year have been scheduled. Coordinator: OPEN
Art Appreciation
This small team works together to ensure that there are adequate supplies for the class Art Guides to implement the program. This team is responsible for inventorying the existing supplies and reviewing the projects and portfolios on an annual basis for opportunities for improvement. They may also fill in for classes that are unable to find class parent to be the class Art Guide coach. Coordinator: Rebecca Hendriks
Audit Committee
This Committee is formed in April to audit PTA financial records for the past year. Accounting or bookkeeping experience is preferred, though not necessary. Audit is conducted over the summer months at the end of the fiscal year. Coordinator: Lesli Cathey
Bilingual Storytime
Volunteers fluent in English and Spanish read stories in both languages to our youngest students. Story time is weekly for one hour and open to children in the Dripping Springs community ages 0-5 years old. Coordinator: Jennifer Misko
Book Fair
Volunteers are needed to help with our annual Book Fair coordinated by our school library staff. There are a variety of tasks including setup, decorating, assisting students during school with selecting books within their budgets, and cleanup. Coordinator: OPEN
Bulletin Board
Volunteers are needed to assist with the upkeep of PTA bulletin boards (and other bulletin boards throughout the school, as requested) Coordinator: Marla Trilica
Fall Fair
This Committee coordinates our Fall Fair. This is the most profitable fundraiser for the PTA and the biggest community event that we host. Volunteers are needed to work on a variety of Sub-Committees, specifically: Advertising, Decorating, Prizes, Food and Drink, Tickets, Class Baskets, Booths, and Setup/Cleanup. Fall Fundraiser Sales
This group of volunteers coordinates all the efforts involved with running a school wide fall fundraising sale. This year we are planning on a sales opportunity for purchasing items personalized with kid's artwork. Volunteers are needed to assist with order processing and order distribution. Coordinator: OPEN
Family Events
Volunteers are needed to help coordinate several family-oriented events, designed to provide family fun and build a sense of community. A perennial favorite is movie night and our annual Valentine's Day lunch. Coordinator: OPEN
General Volunteer
Extra help If you have any spare time and would like to help out in a pinch please check this on the interest form. Coordinator: Jennifer Misko
Health and Nutrition
This is a special committee that loosely formed in the Spring of 2010. This group is focused on nutrition and wellness education. Coordinator: Cindy Bryant
Legislative Action
One or two volunteers needed to keep membership informed on State and National PTA legislative activity as well as look at district /school issues and determine any legislative actions needed. ( i.e. working with the district on campus improvements, etc.) Coordinator: Lesli Cathey
Marquee
One to two volunteers needed to keep up-to-date information on the outdoor sign in front of the school. Coordinator: Melaine Haberman
Math Stars
This PTA enrichment program provides challenging, extracurricular math problems for students in K through 5th grades. A small team works together to ensure that worksheets and prizes are available to the class room Math Coaches. Coordinator: Mika Moran
Newsletter
Volunteers are needed to assist with monthly writing, editing and distributing The Parent Connection, a Dripping Springs PTA publication that includes a monthly calendar and current events. Coordinator: OPEN
Outdoor Classroom
Put your knowledge of nature to use. Volunteers are needed for various gardening duties to maintain these living laboratories for students to learn about plants, birds and butterflies. Coordinators: Cindy Pelland and Cindy Tanner
Outdoor Facility Improvements Committee
Help raise funds to improve our children’s opportunities for physical activity and play. This will be a really great way to have a direct impact on your child’s health. Coordinator: Getsa Palacios
PIRS (Partners in Reading Success)
Adult mentors are paired with a student in need of reading assistance for one hour each week. Mentors read aloud to the student and listen to the student read selections at their reading level Coordinator: Jennifer Misko Planet Protectors This team of volunteers works on promoting earth friendly practices throughout our school community. In the past they have sponsored activities during the week of Earth Day, newsletter articles and recycled junk art contests. Plans for this year have yet to be defined. Coordinator: OPEN
PTA Board
Your PTA Board is made up 12 members including our principal. Seven officers are elected in the spring, 2 are appointed, and we have 2 additional openings for Council representatives are filled at the first meeting the fall. Coordinator: Laura Marsan
Redemption Programs
Volunteers are needed to help gather, count, and mail product labels and box tops for redemption during the school year. Coordinator: Alecia Bergeron
Reflections
This is a National PTA program that provides fine arts opportunities for students in Pre-K – 12th grade in literature, music, photography and visual arts. Volunteers are needed to publicize, promote and coordinate student participation. Coordinator: Sybil Boyter
School Supplies
This PTA service is offered to parents every May for student supplies for the following school year. Supplies are grade-level specific, pre-packaged, and delivered to the classrooms at the beginning of the following school year. Volunteers are needed to help with order processing in May and with distribution in August (of the following school year). Coordinator: Dominique Peel
Science Lab
We have 2 science labs for K-5th graders. Volunteers are needed to assist the teachers with the supplies, materials and creation of science excursions for our students. Coordinator: OPEN
Spring Garage Sale
Since 2008, we have hosted a Community Garage Sale in the spring including the food sales, entertainment, and local publicity. Coordinator: Melaine Haberman and Jeanne Marie Thompson
Spirit Items
This team finds, creates and sells various school spirit items such as t-shirts, hats, water bottles and S'mencils (unbelievable popular!) throughout the year show we can all show our support of DSE in the community. Coordinator: OPEN
Staff Appreciation
The PTA sponsors various staff appreciation events throughout the school year. Volunteers are needed to donate food, assist with decorations, purchase door prizes, and help with setup and cleanup. Coordinator: OPEN
TAKS Snacks
Parent volunteers are needed to help assemble snack food bags for third, fourth and fifth grade students during the scheduled TAKS testing days (held in the spring). Coordinator: Brandy Potter
Talent Show
Every Spring, the DSE PTA hosts a school Talent Show - a fun-filled night showcasing the amazing talent at our school. Participation is open to children as well as adults and has included performances by musicians, dancers, cheerleaders, comedians, storytellers, magicians, and more. Volunteers are needed to assist with the rehearsal and performance. Coordinator: Jennifer Glass
Team Translation (Bilingual)
Our community has an increasing population of families in which the only language spoken at home is Spanish. This language barrier places these families at an enormous disadvantage. Bilingual volunteers are needed who can help translate English-only forms and documents into Spanish for our Spanish-speaking families. Team Translation offers services once a week to those in need. Teacher Workroom
Volunteers are needed throughout the school year to help prepare teacher materials (photocopying, collating, binding, cutting, pasting, etc.). Coordinator: Amy Goertz
U.I.L.
This committee supports the school UIL coordinator in disseminating information regarding UIL events and promoting student activities in UIL programs. Volunteers are needed weekly during the UIL season to monitor students between the end of the school day and the start of practice. Coordinator: OPEN
Vending Machine
The PTA maintains a snack food vending machine in the staff break room. Volunteers are needed to purchase snack items, stock the vending machine, and refund monies, when applicable. Coordinator: Teresa Bonham
Website
Assists the 4th VP of Communications in keeping the website files and information current Coordinator: OPEN
Yearbook
The PTA compiles an annual yearbook of events throughout the school year. Volunteers are needed throughout the year for picture-taking and for layout, sales, and distribution of the Memory Books. Coordinator: Gina Bisett
Campus Opportunities
By volunteering for these opportunities, you will work directly with associated DSE staff member. Please let us know if you're interested by filling out the attached yellow Volunteer Interest Survey form.
Art Helper
Work directly with our Art teacher to help with hanging artwork, preparing materials for class and updating bulletin boards. Hours are flexible to your schedule.
Cafeteria Helper
Help cafeteria staff serve meals on family event days such as our annual Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day lunches.
Counselor Helper
Assist our school counselor with photos for our STAMP and PRIDE assemblies, preparing materials for RedRiboon week, updating bulletin boards and other clerical duties.
Library Helper
Team up with our library staff shelving books, checking-out books and updating bulletin boards. No prior library experience is needed and hours are flexible to suit your schedule.
Music Helper
Tasks are varied and may include projects such as set construction, prop design, and costume creation for music programs. General clerical help (i.e. photocopying) is needed, as well. Hours are flexible to your schedule.
Nurse Helper
Assist our campus nurse with clerical tasks and vision and hearing screenings. No medical background is needed.
Office Helper
Help in our office with general clerical tasks and receptionist duties.
PE Helper
Volunteer to help our PE coaches with various activities throughout the year.
Classroom Opportunities
There are several opportunities to assist directly in the classroom. If you are interested in bringing any of the following PTA Programs to your child's classroom, please signup with your child's teacher directly. Sign up sheets will be available in the classroom at either Meet the Teacher or Parent Orientation.
If you are available to assist in other classrooms, please check the program on the Volunteer Interest Survey (yellow form). This will help to ensure all students are able to participate in these enrichment programs.
There may be additional opportunities to help in the classroom that are not listed here. Please contact your teacher directly for more information.
Room Parent
Work directly with the teacher to define roles and activities. Typically the room parent helps with creating a class directory, planning parties, preparing class materials, and other clerical help.
PTA Liaison
Communicate and recruit help within the class for a variety of PTA programs throughout the year such as Fall Fair, and Staff Appreciation efforts (cookie exchange, luncheon).
Art Appreciation Guides
Deliver defined art appreciation lessons and lead art projects in your class on a monthly basis. Artists are defined and project ideas are provided.
Math Stars
Coordinate and implement the Math Stars program in your child's class. Duties include collecting completed work sheets, grading worksheets and maintaining and updating bulletin boards showing student progress, and handing out prizes at various points thoughout the year.
Science Lab Assistants
Work with the teacher to setup and monitor science exploration activities in the Science Labs. Frequency to be determined by your teacher. |
