The House Store is a student incentive program where children can spend their house points on a variety of donated items. The entire store is staffed with PTA volunteers and helping hands are always needed to check out customers and collect/organize treasures to stock the shelves.
Students have the opportunity to earn House Points when they are “caught” following classroom or school-wide expectations. The classroom/student management system that we will continue to incorporate school wide is called PBS (Positive Behavior Support). It is a system that focuses on positive statements, expectations, structures, routines and the consistency of all these components. The basic premise behind PBS is that when you explicitly teach the behavior through teacher interactive modeling, positive teacher language, and clear expectations students will intrinsically demonstrate desirable behaviors. This will ensure that the structures and routines are consistent and managing student behavior becomes proactive rather than reactive.
