Letter from the PTA President
I hope that you have all had a smooth start to the school year! We had a great group at Popsicles in the Park to celebrate the new school year. All hundred popsicles were gone so although it was hot, we tried to stay cool, meet new friends, and the kids had fun on the playground.
“Look Within” is the theme for the Reflections fine arts contest this year and we are all digging deep to make more great things happen at DSE. Last year, we raised enough money to install a shade cover for the upper elementary playground. We will all get to see this fantastic addition to our campus in the next few weeks. This year’s fundraising efforts will go towards another shade cover for the lower elementary playground. The space is twice as big to cover and more expensive, but this is an item we feel is important in our Texas heat.
Information about our first fundraising activity went home last week! Fredericksburg Farms has some great items to buy for yourself or gift a friend. Support a local business AND help us start raising the money for that second shade cover.
As if this wasn’t exciting enough, we have staff that encourage growth from our children each day, a newly renovated building, a garden to revive, and a chicken coop to install. Math Stars and Art Appreciation are gearing up to get started and the annual fair is right around the corner! Mark your calendar on October 26 for Octoberfest. Save the date because nobody wants to miss the games, toys, food, silent auction, and class baskets!
Our members help determine and approve how our funds are allocated, and I invite you to become part of that process. If you have already joined PTA, thank you! Your membership dues make big differences for our students, staff, and school. If you haven’t had the opportunity yet, please join now. Our next general PTA meeting will be in the CL&I on September 26 at 8 am. Please join us, even if you can’t stay for the entire meeting.
We have had tremendous growth in the last year so there are several committees that need chairs/volunteers. Something may line up perfectly with one of your passions and the great thing about it is, you can volunteer an hour or two a month, you can volunteer from home, or you can run a program.
Here are some of the open areas we need filled:
- Book Fair
- Graduating Senior
- Math Stars (co-chair)
- Outdoor Classroom (first grade parent)
- Reflections (co-chair)
- Science Lab
- Spelling Bee
- Teacher Workroom
Lastly, our PTA room has moved and we are sharing the Cool Cat Cash Store building. We are very grateful for our space! It took a team to organize, but teamwork makes the dream work and we have a great village.
