September 2016 PTA Newsletter

DSE PTA Newsletter

September 8, 2016

The beginning of school is just around the corner- time flies! Lots of news to distribute! Firstly, welcome back to school! We are going to do our best this year to be greener in our publications, therefore the forms that are usually in the Meet the Teacher packet will all be available online. Thank you for helping us keep our printing costs down- PTA membership, class t-shirts, as well as 4th grade recorders can all be purchased via our online store here or type into your browser.

We are always looking for volunteers- go here to sign up (or into your browser)!

We are very excited about our first fundraiser that will be happening soon after school starts. We are partnering with Yankee Candles to help fund the improvement of the older kids (3rd-5th  grade) playground. Those kids who are going into 3rd and only enjoyed our pre-k- 2nd playground improvements for a short couple of months can look forward to seeing some fun things appearing on the upper level playground!

We are also helping to fund News ELA, an online bank for all classrooms of expository texts (English and Spanish) and current events that are leveled for all reading levels. We will also be putting a bit of that money aside for the new elementary and middle school PTA seed fund. We are hoping to begin a scholarship for DSHS seniors who graduated from DSES as well.

Look for the Yankee Candle catalog in the Sept. 8th Thursday folder!

If you would prefer to just give a lump sum, and not have to volunteer or fundraise, please feel free to go to the PTA shop here (or type into your browser).

School supplies will be available in the gym at Meet the Teacher on August the 18th. The PTA board is looking forward to meeting the new families and seeing all the familiar faces from last year! Please stop by the PTA tables at Meet the Teacher and introduce yourself.

11:35 – 11:50
11:50 – 12:05

  • Tiger Readers will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Volunteers can pick the day and the time slot that fits their schedule.  More days may be added if we have more students.
  • Volunteers that sign up will need to commit to 1 year.
  • Volunteers may not be assigned to their kids classroom.  When a volunteer signs up for the time slot – they will be assigned to that group of kids.
  • We are not reading to the kids.  There will be a curriculum each volunteer will need to follow.  We are working on improving the students letter recognition, writing, spelling and reading skills.
  • This program is geared for the Kinder age group.  However, we will accept volunteers from all grade levels.  Watch Dog Dads are encouraged to sign up as well!
  • All volunteers will be required to go through the Tiger Reader training, have a CBC on file, and sign a confidentiality form.
