A Message from the President


We have lots of school happenings at DSES.
Friday, April 17, in honor of Earth Day, we will be showing The Lorax in the cafeteria at 6:30pm.  Students can come with pillows & blankets to enjoy the feature.
Monday-Wednesday, April 20-23, 3rd, 4th & 5th graders will be taking the STAAR test. During these days, there will be limited building access and modified lunch schedules.
Wednesday, April 29, will be our next PTA General Membership Meeting at 8am in Room 310.  In addition to our regular meeting, we will be electing the 2015/2016 Officers as well as voting to amend the By Laws and Standing Rules.  Links to the changes can be found on our website, in the bottom right corner.  Please see the list below for officer candidates.

We will also accept nominations from the floor, during the meeting.  You can also contactAubrey Munguia, Ricky Reid or Leslie Rhode, if you are interested.

Good Luck to our students next week and I’ll see you in the halls.

2015/2016 PTA Board Elections

The nominating committee is pleased to present the following nominations for next year’s PTA Board.  As always, floor nominations can be made at the meeting on April 29, at 8am, in Room 310.

2nd VP Ways and Means – Ricky Reid
3rd VP Volunteers – Shelly Dennison
4th VP Public Information – Leigh Ryan
Secretary – Heather Waller
Treasurer – Alison Ulrich

There are many coordinator positions available for next year as well. Please feel free to ask/email any current board member, or at the next meeting, for more information about a specific committee.  Several of these can be done from home, or require little time, once set up at the beginning of the school year.

Last Opportunity to Meet the School Board Candidates

DSMS: Friday, April 24, at 8:45am, after general membership meeting the candidates will introduce themselves. Then, they’ll stick around for questions after update and Q&A with principal, Mr. Hays.

Staff Appreciation Week May 4-8 !!!

Good afternoon parents!  As promised, here is the full schedule for our staff during the Annual Staff Appreciation Week and how we could use your help.

Monday – Our PTA will be providing breakfast to kick off their week.

Tuesday – Our PTA is providing an “End of Day Dessert Cart”.

Wednesday – “Book Shop” during lunch. We welcome donations that the teachers would enjoy for their summer pleasure reading.  This is not for their classroom library but rather for their own relaxation. Please bring your books to the workroom between now and Wednesday May 6.

Thursday – “Staff Luncheon and Boutique”.  Our PTA will provide the lunch, but we need boutique items.  Any new gift or gift card donation for the boutique valued from $15-$25 would be greatly appreciated. Please deliver items to school no later than Tuesday, May 5, so we can get a final count and display.   Our goal is 100 gifts.

Friday – “Flowers and Notes” for teachers.  Have students bring fresh, homegrown or wild picked flowers for the teachers with a note of appreciation.  Room Parents, please make sure you have a vase for your teacher ready that morning!
