A Message from the President
Hooray for a three day weekend!
Monday is a school holiday and when we come back, the students will be in Career Week, with Innovation Day on Thursday, January 22.
Look for Book Fair information coming home in the Thursday Folder. We will be having it the week of February 9-13, in Room 310. We’ll need lots of volunteers to set up, work the fair & help take down. Alicia Putman will be sending the information with a link to sign up and volunteer. Tuesday, February 10, will be our family night and the book fair will be open til 6:30pm, so please make plans to attend with your child’s class or as a family. You can also email Alicia directly to volunteer – Alicia@putmanweb.com.
The next principals’ coffee will be held Friday, February 6 at 8am in Room 310; and our next PTA General Meeting will be Wednesday, February 25, at 8:30am in Room 310. (Please note this is a date change from previously scheduled)
Lastly, January is School Board Recognition Month and it’s “A Work of Heart” for our board members. When you see any of our board members, please thank them for their time and dedication to making our students and DSISD something to be proud of.

DSE Book Fair is Coming!
Mark your calendars–the DSES Book Fair is coming February 9-13! If you are interested in volunteering at the fair, please send your email to Alicia at email@example.com to be added to the email distribution list.
Our school is again participating in the Six Flags Read to Succeed program. This is a chance for your child to earn a FREE ticket to Fiesta Texas. To qualify, your student must read (or be read to) for at least six hours (outside of homework) between now and February 20, 2015. This program is open to all students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. Forms were sent home in Thursday folders in December, but additional copies are available in the office if yours has disappeared. When the log is completed and signed, please return it to your child’s teacher.

DSES kicks off it’s first INNOVATION DAY, Thursday, January 22nd. Products like Google Earth, Gmail, and even Post-It notes were brought to us as a result of having time for innovation and creativity. The idea behind Innovation Day is to get our students learning about their passion and preparing a product to share with their peers.
The one-day event will allow students to foster and direct their own learning and provide the opportunities to problem-solve, take risks, learn from mistakes and even find their own successes.
Several items are needed:
• Cereal Boxes and any other “thin” cardboard boxes (pantry boxes)
• Tissue boxes
• Paper Tubes-Toilet, wrapping, and towel
• Hot Glue Sticks
• Plastic Straws
• Anything other material or thing you think might spark creativity.
To volunteer on this very special day, parents are encouraged to check in with the CL&I to find out where help is needed.
